Dept of Botany and Biotechnology
The Department of Botany and Biotechnology was instituted in the year 2005. BSc Botany & Biotechnology is a two main course with Botany as core and Biotechnology as Vocational Core. Subject is designed to develop a scientific attitude and an interest towards the modern areas of biotechnology in particular and life science in general. It is aimed to get an aptitude in Biotechnology without losing the importance of basic science such as Botany. It will help the students to become critical and curious in their outlook. The courses are designed to impart the essential basics in Botany, Zoology, Biochemistry and Biotechnology.
The department was raised to the post-graduate level in 2020 offering M.Sc. in Botany.
Programme Outcome
- To equip students with knowledge in the modern areas of biotechnology and its application in medical science, agriculture, proteomics, genomics, bioinformatics, nanobiotechnology etc.
- To create awareness in students about the power of biotechnology in developing the nation.
- To eliminate public fear about the contribution of biotechnology and confusion on GM crops, GM foods and transgenic organisms.
