The Library

The KVVSCST Library is the soul of the Institution and it acquires, processes, preserves and disseminates information to the user community with the motto of empowering knowledge. The College library is spacious enough to accommodate many number of students at a time with an exhaustive collection of over 8000 books, subscribed magazines, journals and newspapers and undoubtedly one of the best equipped libraries among all colleges in the City. The Library holds a hybrid collection of printed as well as electronic resources, previous years question papers and project reports to meet present and future information requirement of the students and the faculties. ILMS Software KOHA, DELNET provides a user friendly interface. The Library is constantly updated with the latest books of knowledge. The library always encourages all students and faculty to recommend new books in order to strengthen theircollection.

IN HOUSE AUTHOR LOUNGE

The college library provide the separate space facility called IN HOUSE AUTHORS’ LOUNGE for encouraging the literary works among the teaching- non teaching staffs and students. As the name suggests whoever interested in publishing works in any kind including Fictional and Non Fictional, articles, journals can shelf their works in the place where it is provided.

RULES AND REGULATIONS TO BE FOLLOWED

  1. Every student must possess his/ her library Card while making use of the Library facility and produce the same to the library Staff on entering theLibrary.
  2. Strict discipline must be maintained in the Library
  3. Book will be issued against one reader’s ticket for specific number of daysonly.
  4. Reference material should not be taken outside the library.
  5. Journals and periodicals are issued against Library cards for reading in the library only.
  6. Students are required to handle books and reading material very carefully. Marking library books with pencil or ink, tearing the pages or spoiling the same in any other way will be viewed very seriously. In such cases, the last reader will be held responsible unless he shows the librarian at the time of issue that the book had been previously marked or damaged. In the event of damage of any kind, the last reader will be liable to compensate for damage/replacement of the book.
  7. In case a reader loses a book he/ she should replace the book. In case the book cannot be replaced. The current price of the book will be charged to theborrower.
  8. Membership card is non-transferable. Students must not lend their Readers Ticket to any other student to borrow books from the Library. Library facilities will be withdrawn for students misusingcards.
  9. The college Leaving Certificate or Transfer Certificate will be issued to student on the account of course completion only after he/ she has returned all the Library books and cleared all library dues.


DELNET

ABOUT DELNET

DELNET was started at the India International Centre Library in January 1988 and was registered as a society in 1992.

It was initially supported by the National Information System for Science and Technology (NISSAT), Department of Scientific and Industrial Reseach, Government of India. It was subsequently supported by the National Informatics Centre, Department of Information Technology, Ministry of Communications and Information Technology, Government of India and the Ministry of Culture, Government of India.

DELNET has been established with the prime objective of promoting resource sharing among the libraries through the development of a network of libraries. It aims to collect, store, and disseminate information besides offering computerised services to users, to coordinate efforts for suitable collection development and also to reduce unnecessary duplication wherever possible.

DELNET has been actively engaged with the compilation of various Union Catalogues of the resources available in member-libraries.It has already created the Union Catalogue of Books,Union List of Current Periodicals, Union Catalogue of Periodicals,CD-ROM Database,Database of Indian Specialists, Database of Periodical Articles, Union List of Video Recordings, Urdu Manuscripts' Database, Database of Theses and Dissertations, sample databases of language publications using GIST technology and several other databases. The data is being updated in these databases and is growing rapidly. All the DELNET databases have been resident on DELSIS, an in-house software developed on BASISPlus, an RDBMS, the product of Information Dimensions Inc. of USA which has been provided to DELNET courtesy National Informatics Centre, New Delhi.

Objectives of DELNET

  1. To promote sharing of resources among the libraries by developing a network of libraries, by collecting, storing and disseminating information and by offering computerised services to the users
  2. To undertake scientific research in the area of Information Science and Technology, create new systems in the field, apply the results of research and publish them
  3. To offer technical guidance to the member-libraries on collecting, storing, sharing and disseminating information4. To coordinate efforts for suitable collection development and reduce unnecessary duplication wherever possible
  4. To faciliate and promote delivery of documents manually or mechanically
  5. To establish /facilitate the establishment of referral and /or research centres, and maintain a central online union catalogue of books, serials and non-book materials of all the participating libraries
  6. To develop a specialised bibliographic database of books, serials and non-book materials
  7. To develop databases of projects, specialists and institutions To possess and maintain electronic and mechanical equipment for speedy communication of information and delivery of electronic mail
  8. To coordinate with other regional, national and international networks and libraries for exchange of information and documents


The Library is open from 9:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. on all working days.
A library Committee that includes the representatives of Teachers and students help to direct the library services.
